Background Papers

A suite of Background Papers have been drafted on certain aspects of the Greater Hobart area including demographic, economic, social and other specific issues considered relevant to provide supporting information for the Work Program and its associated outputs. The data contained in the papers has been taken from the 2016 Census and may require amendment as the results of the most recent Census are released.

The papers cover the following subject areas:

  1. Greater Hobart Area Profile

    Provides a breakdown of data to provide a snapshot of the Greater Hobart area in relation to its population, housing and economy.

  2. Southern Tasmania Regional Profile

    Provides a breakdown of data to provide a snapshot of the wider State and southern Tasmania region and to highlight the contributions made by the Greater Hobart area in areas such as population, housing and economy.

  3. Greater Hobart Transport Data

    Provides an outline and data on the transportation network in the Greater Hobart area, and includes a detailed breakdown of place of work and journey to work data as obtained through the 2016 ABS Census.

  4. Policies and Strategies

    Provides a summary of the policies and strategies currently in place by the four central Hobart Councils and the State to assist the drawing of parallels and synergies between members.

  5. Regional Waste Management

    Provides a summary of the waste management assets and responsibilities within the Greater Hobart area and the wider southern Tasmania region.

  6. Housing and Affordability

    Examines the housing data within the Greater Hobart area and the current federal, state and local government policies that seek to influence housing trends within the Greater Hobart area.
